Two pirates are sitting in a grog shop having a few drinks. One of them has a peg leg, the other a hook for an arm and a patch over a bad eye. The first pirate explains his bad luck and the missing limb, saying, "We were attacking this vessel, and when we boarded, one of the enemy sailors took a swipe at me and severed my leg."
The second pirate explained his misfortune: "I got this when a seagull let go of some droppings right into my eye."
The first pirate said, "That would be irritating, but it wouldn't cost you an eye."
The second pirate said, "Well, you see, it was my first day with this hook."
