The company was on maneuvers. After a two-hour march, one of the men asked the sergeant, "How far to the bivouac?"
"About three miles."
Another hour's march, and a second soldier asked, "How far to the bivouac?"
"About three miles."
An hour and a half went by, and a third soldier asked the same question. The response was the same, "Three miles."
A fourth soldier smiled and said, "Thank God we're holding our own."
