Michael Stinchcomb, a weekend gardener in the Hamptons, was grateful to a friend who told him that she used inverted wine bottles full of water to keep her potted plants from drying out during the week.
One weekend he lent his house to a horticulturally challenged blonde. He left some inverted wine bottles and told her to be sure to water the flowers when she arrived.
When Stinchcomb picked up his telephone messages, he was amused to hear, "I don't know what to do. Which plants drink Chardonnay, which drink Merlot and which drink Champagne?"
