Little Johnny and his friend Fred got into an argument about politics.
Fred asked, "What are you, Little Johnny?"
Little Johnny replied, "I'm a Republican and proud of it!"'
"A Republican!!! That is really stupid, I'm a Democrat! Don't you know anything?" said Fred. Fred went on to tell him why it was smarter to be a Democrat. Finally he asked, "Little Johnny, why are you a Republican?"
Little Johnny replied, "My father and grandfather are Republicans, everyone in my family has always been Republican. I guess I am carrying on the family tradition."
"That's it?" exclaimed Fred, "That's really stupid! What if your father and grandfather had been horse thieves? What would you be then?"
"Well," Little Johnny replied with a smile, "I suppose then I'd be a Democrat like you."
